ABOUT THE COMPANY.

A permanent opportunity for a Local Council based in the Southern Highlands. This Council offers healthy work life balance with a 35-hour working week including work from home arrangements & variable days off. 


ABOUT THE POSITION.

You will be responsible for coordinating Council reports to planning panels, assessing and reporting on major and complex development applications, and acting as an expert witness in the Land and Environment Court when required. You also play a key role in mentoring and supporting staff across the assessment function.


DUTIES.
  • Overseeing the assessment and determination of a wide range of Development Applications
  • Leading and mentoring a team of Planning Officers through performance and capability building
  • Driving customer service excellence and continuous improvement
  • Ensuring compliance with planning legislation and local policies
  • Representing Council at panels, in Court, and during community consultations
  • Managing budgets, resourcing, and strategic objectives

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE.

  • Degree qualifications in Town Planning or related
  • 5+ years’ experience in local government planning, including DA assessment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and other planning related 
  • Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop high-performing teams
