ABOUT THE POSITION 

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Property Officer to join our Local Council team in New South Wales. The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing and enhancing the council's property portfolio, ensuring that assets are effectively utilized to serve the community's needs.

You will be managing leases and licences across a range of Council-owned properties, and overseeing project lifecycles, particularly in early-stage planning and feasibility. Strong commercial acumen, with a background in both residential and commercial property sectors - ideally with a focus on development and asset optimisation and some tenancy or operational management.

DUTIES
  • Manage leases and licences across a range of Council-owned properties, including renewals, rent reviews, and compliance checks
  • Identify cost-saving and revenue-generating opportunities within the property portfolio, supporting Council’s long-term financial goals
  • Help develop and implement policies, frameworks, and renewal programs for the effective management of Council’s property and building assets
  • Manage property-related contracts and maintenance in alignment with safety, accessibility, and climate change objectives - including lighting, energy, and advertising
  • Provide expert advice and strategic leadership on property matters, fostering stakeholder relationships to influence regulatory and legislative outcomes
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Property Management, Real Estate, Law, or a related field, or demonstrated equivalent experience.​
  • Experience: Proven experience in property management or a similar role, within a local government context.​
  • Experience in design management, ensuring projects align with economic, planning, and community goals
  • Knowledge: Understanding of relevant legislation, including the Local Government Act 1993, Crown Land Management Act 2016, and Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983.​
  • Skills:  Skilled in managing strategic property projects, including residual land and community developments (e.g., civic centres)
